The Mathematical Formula for Age Calculation
While our calculator does the heavy lifting instantly, you might wonder how chronological age is calculated algorithmically. The fundamental formula used by our system relies on date arithmetic:
Age in Years = Current Year − Birth Year
Age in Months = Current Month − Birth Month
Age in Days = Current Day − Birth Day
However, simple subtraction isn't enough because months have 28, 29, 30, or 31 days. If the "Current Day" is smaller than the "Birth Day", the algorithm borrows a full month's worth of days from the "Months" column. Similarly, if the "Current Month" is smaller than the "Birth Month", it borrows 12 months from the "Years" column.
